Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Your MC Pay account stores money, personal data and information about all transactions — it must be reliably protected from intruders. Therefore, all our users must confirm their email, pass KYC verification and enable two-factor authentication (2FA).

What is 2FA?

The main task of 2FA is to protect data from cybercriminals. With it enabled, after logging in and entering a password, the user goes through another verification stage — additionally confirms being the owner of the account.

In MC Pay, we also use 2FA and, asking you to enter a secret one-time code for confirmation. We send it in an SMS message to the number specified in the profile. You can also confirm the account by entering backup codes — we show their list when you enable 2FA.

Thus, fraudsters need to gain access not only to the password, but also to the phone, email or list of codes — which is almost impossible.

In addition, 2FA can warn about a hacking attempt. If you receive a message with a code that you did not request, immediately change your password and check if there has been any suspicious activity in your profile.

How to enable 2FA?

Before enabling 2FA, make sure that you have successfully completed the mandatory steps to protect your account — email and verification. If they are not confirmed, the system will ask you to complete these steps for further work.

You can confirm your email and complete verification in the «Settings» section of your profile.

In the Settings there is a block called «Security», in which you need to select «Two-factor authentication».

To enable 2FA, we must be sure that the request is made by the account owner.

Enter the account password or log in via the social network linked to the account to confirm that you are the owner of this account.

Next, you need to link a phone number to the account so we can send messages with codes to it. If you haven’t done this yet, enter the number and wait for the SMS.

In Settings, you will see that the number is confirmed. It is visible only to you and is needed to operate the system. After confirming the number, we can enable 2FA. Now, when you log in, you will receive an SMS with a secret code.

Backup codes

When you enable 2FA, we provide you with 6 backup codes. If you don’t have access to your phone, you can still log in using one of them.

Please note!

Each code is valid only once.

Backup codes are only shared with you and only when you enable 2FA, so be sure to copy and save them in a safe place.

Code from SMS

After enabling 2FA, you can confirm your account login using a code — we will send it to your number specified in your profile in an SMS message. Without access to your phone, it is impossible to log in, and it is much more difficult for fraudsters to access your account.

Biometrics

After completing two-factor authentication, you can enable biometrics in the MC Pay mobile app — this will allow you to confirm transactions using your face or fingerprint in a matter of seconds instead of waiting for a code to arrive in a message.

How to enable biometrics?

Go to the «Security» section and click «Two-factor authentication».

Tap the switch to enable «Face scan or fingerprint».

The biometrics enable screen will open.

Allow the app to use Face ID.

After FaceID is enabled, the system will ask you to create and re-enter a PIN code — it is needed in case FaceID does not work or does not detect your face or fingerprint 3 times in a row.

You can reset the password only by disabling 2FA.

After you enable biometrics, the settings in the «Two-factor authentication» section will look like this:

How to disable 2FA?

You can disable 2FA in the «Settings» section —> «Security» block —> «Two-factor authentication» —> «Disable 2FA».

But remember that without two-factor authentication you will not be able to withdraw and transfer funds. Yes, 2FA requires additional actions when logging in, but it guarantees the security of your money, transfers and data.
